Friends, family, and neighbors across Wilmer are coming together this month to support the family of 38-year-old James "Roland" Parker, who died on Tuesday, July 28, after the motorcycle he was riding was struck by another vehicle. The tragedy has left loved ones grieving and searching for ways to ease the financial burden that so often follows an unexpected death, and a community benefit has quickly taken shape as the answer.
The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 8, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Stevadours Whiskey Well, a gathering spot that organizers hope will draw a large turnout of supporters from Wilmer and the surrounding Mobile County area. The benefit is being organized entirely by Parker’s friends and family, who describe him as a man who never hesitated to lend a hand to others.
"Roland was the kind of person who would help anyone without hesitation," friends said in describing why they felt compelled to organize the event. "Now, it’s our turn to show up for his family."
What to Expect at the Benefit
Attendees can look forward to a full afternoon of food, fellowship, and fundraising activities designed to help offset Parker’s funeral expenses. Pulled pork plates will be sold throughout the event, giving guests a chance to enjoy a classic Southern meal while supporting a good cause.
