AFC Mobile has unveiled its 2020 National Premier Soccer League schedule, the club’s first season in the country’s top summer amateur league.
The Azaleas open May 7 on the road against the Jacksonville Armada U23s, then visit the New Orleans Jesters on May 16. The home opener is May 23 against the Armada U23s at the Archbishop Lipscomb Athletic Complex. After road trips to Tallahassee SC and Pensacola FC — fellow migrants from the Gulf Coast Premier League — Mobile returns home June 6 to host the Jesters.
The Forgotten Coast Cup resumes when Port City FC visits June 13, and the Azaleas host Tallahassee SC on June 27. On July 1, AFC Mobile travels to Chattanooga for the second annual MoonPie Match against Chattanooga FC, a fully professional side led by former University of Mobile coach Peter Fuller. The winner takes a wrestling-style belt adorned with a MoonPie logo.
“We will see some familiar faces and create new rivalries, which will be fantastic for our supporters,” head coach Steve Wieczorek said.
The NPSL, with about 91 teams across 14 regional conferences, offers direct qualification to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. AFC Mobile closes the regular season July 4 against Pensacola FC at The Lip. All home matches kick off at 7 p.m., and season tickets are on sale at afcmobile.net.
