Baldwin Bridge Company loses lawsuit; third Pleasure Island bridge cleared

The Baldwin Bridge Company lost its lawsuit against the Alabama Department of Transportation, clearing the way for a third bridge onto Pleasure Island. The new bridge will be toll-free.

Marshall challenges Space Command decision

Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall made a series of allegations against the Biden administration over its announcement that U.S. Space Command will be located in Colorado rather than Huntsville.

Barkley sentenced in Auburn case

Barkley, the Auburn man convicted of attempted murder of an Auburn police officer, was sentenced to 35 years. Barkley was seriously wounded in July 2021 when an officer fired into his home after his wife called police for assistance. The officer shot Barkley first. Barkley and his wife have said he did not know police were at the residence.

Elliott speaks in Foley on school books

State Sen. Chris Elliott spoke to residents in Foley this week about what he described as the dangers of certain books and said sex education should not be taught in schools. Speakers also addressed the topic at this week’s Foley City Council meeting. A Baldwin County chapter of the group Moms for Liberty has formed.

Hearing on cannabis commission’s closed session

A Montgomery County Circuit Court hearing on Monday will consider whether the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission violated the state’s Open Meetings Act by going into executive session.
