Alligator Sighting Snarls Traffic at Pensacola’s Graffiti Bridge
An alligator crossing the road briefly held up traffic at Pensacola's Graffiti Bridge on Aug. 14, with a driver capturing the encounter on video.
An alligator, not a stalled vehicle, was the cause of a traffic slowdown at Pensacola’s Graffiti Bridge this week. Drivers were held up around 4:15 p.m. on Aug. 14 as the reptile made its way through the roadway.
Jillian Hayes captured video of the alligator walking through the area. She said she and her daughter reached out to share what they saw.
About the bridge and what to do if you see a gator
The Graffiti Bridge is a railroad trestle over North 17th Avenue in Pensacola that residents have been painting with messages and artwork for decades, making it one of the city’s best-known landmarks.
American alligators live throughout Florida, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission advises people to keep their distance and never feed them, which is illegal in the state. The agency asks anyone who believes an alligator poses a threat to people, pets or property to call its nuisance alligator hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286).
