New Traffic Pattern Shifts I-10 Eastbound Lanes Near U.S. 29 in Pensacola
A new temporary traffic pattern has shifted I-10 eastbound lanes near the U.S. 29 exit in Pensacola for ongoing construction, expected to last through late 2026.
Drivers on Interstate 10 eastbound near the U.S. 29 exit in Pensacola are now navigating a new temporary traffic pattern after crews shifted travel lanes to create a dedicated work zone. Under the new configuration, eastbound lanes have been moved south of the interstate to accommodate ongoing construction.
The lane shift allows crews to continue work tied to the interstate’s widening and realignment, along with the replacement of the North Palafox Street bridge. The temporary configuration is expected to remain in place through late 2026.
The posted speed limit through the work zone has been reduced to 50 mph, and officials are reminding drivers to slow down and use caution, noting that speeding fines may be doubled when workers are present. The broader I-10 at U.S. 29 interchange improvement project is scheduled for completion in 2030.
About the project
The Florida Department of Transportation’s I-10 at U.S. 29 interchange project is a roughly $55 million effort that also includes replacing the North Palafox Street and CSX railway bridges over the interstate.
