A Baker High School graduate is headed to international competition. Dontavious Hill has been named to the Team USA track and field roster for the North American, Central American and Caribbean Open Championship, set for August 19 through 21 in the Bahamas.
Hill earned the selection on the strength of a breakout season. The Auburn University senior finished third in the men’s high jump at the 2022 USA Track and Field Championships, clearing 2.22 meters (about 7 feet, 3.4 inches) at his best.
A consistent podium presence
The collegiate season told much the same story. Hill took third in the men’s high jump at both the NCAA Indoor and NCAA Outdoor Championships, with top clearances of 2.20 meters indoors and 2.21 meters outdoors.
The Mobile County Public School System celebrated the hometown connection, congratulating the Baker graduate on the national team selection in a post on the district’s Facebook page.
