A community fundraiser this weekend will serve up smoked brisket while raising money for Mobile’s first responders.
The “Brisket for Blue” event runs Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Guy T. Smith Lodge, 6715 Dauphin Island Parkway. A brisket lunch is $10, with all proceeds split evenly between the Mobile Police Department and Mobile Fire-Rescue.
Organizer Betty Bryan said the event benefits the Mobile Law Enforcement Association and the Fireman’s Safety Fund, and is a way for residents to show appreciation for first responders. Mobile Fire-Rescue Department spokesman Steven Millhouse said the support from the community means a great deal to local police and firefighters.
“Something ever happens, who is it that’s coming to help us? So we need to give back to them,” Bryan said.
