A teen fashion showcase called “Rock the Runway” returned to Mobile on Saturday, Nov. 4, pairing style with a message about preventing youth violence.
The free event began at 4 p.m. at the entrance to Dillard’s in the Shoppes at Bel Air. The store provided participating models with makeup and outfits, and attendees could catch a special Dillard’s promotion.
Youth Taking the Lead
Twenty young women selected from high schools across the Mobile area took part, each paired with a fashion coach to prepare for the runway. The theme, “Rockin’ Style and Love for Life,” gave participants a platform to talk about preventing all forms of violence, including suicide.
“We believe in the power of our youth to inspire change and promote a future filled with love and respect for life,” said Joshua Jones, the City of Mobile’s Youth Violence Prevention coordinator.
The show was presented by the City of Mobile’s Youth Violence Prevention and Breakthrough Teens programs. Dillard’s store manager Justin Dubyak said the store was proud to roll out the red carpet for the cause.
The event was open to the public at no charge.
