The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a homeless woman accused of shooting a man inside a shed on his own property in Cantonment on Sunday night, an incident deputies say has left her wanted on an attempted homicide charge.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. at a residence on Woodbury Place, just off Woodbury Circle. Investigators say the homeowner had allowed the woman to stay in a shed on his property. While she was standing outside the shed Sunday night, deputies say she fired a gun through the closed shed door, striking the man while he was inside.
The woman fled the scene immediately after the shooting, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies searched the surrounding neighborhood using patrol units, a drone and a K-9 team, but were unable to locate her.
Victim Declined Medical Treatment
Escambia County EMS responded to the scene, but the victim refused medical treatment, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies have not released further details about the extent of his injuries.
Investigators say the woman will face a charge of attempted homicide once she is located and taken into custody. Her identity has not yet been released by the Sheriff’s Office, and the search for her remains active.
