The first day of school in Escambia County was a success, according to Superintendent Keith Leonard, who says the district is looking to build on that momentum throughout the year.
“We have close to 32,000 students,” Leonard said on his way home after a long day Wednesday of visiting schools. “We were able to get them all safely transported to and from school. For the most part, I believe everyone had a full schedule, a full day of activity. I would say we had a very successful full day of school here in Escambia County Public Schools.”
The district is starting the year ranked at the top of the state’s grading system, having earned an overall A, though Leonard said there is still room for improvement at some schools. “Our goal is simply to improve. If we improve from our last year’s score, that will be pretty substantive, so that is our goal,” he said.
