Foley police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place Thursday, July 23, on Ghost Horse Drive, according to a news release from the Foley Police Department.
Officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home on Ghost Horse Drive around 5:16 p.m. When they arrived, they found a person dead at the scene, police said.
The Foley Police Department has not released the identity of the victim as the investigation continues. Officials said there is no ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
Domestic violence calls remain among the most dangerous and unpredictable situations law enforcement officers respond to, and departments across Baldwin County have increasingly emphasized specialized training for handling these calls safely. Foley, a growing city in south Baldwin County, has seen its population expand significantly over the past decade, a trend that has brought added demand on local police resources.

Update: Victim Identified, Father Says He Acted in Defense of Family
Foley police have since identified the man killed as Aaron Steed, 35, of Foley. Steed died at approximately 5:16 p.m. on July 23 at the Ghost Horse Drive residence, according to the department’s report.
Officers who responded found Steed dead at the scene. Investigators say Steed’s 60-year-old father, who lives at the home, is believed to have fired the shot that killed his son in defense of himself and other family members who were present during the altercation.
No charges have been filed as of this writing, though police say the investigation remains active. All parties involved are cooperating with detectives, and authorities describe the shooting as an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the surrounding community. The case will be presented to a grand jury once the investigation concludes.
