Former Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Volunteer Charged With Child Sex Abuse
A 74-year-old former Mobile County Sheriff's Office volunteer is charged with sexually abusing a child under 12 between 2014 and 2019.
A man who volunteered inside the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office has been booked into Metro Jail on charges of sexually abusing a child, according to investigators.
Court documents charge Jimmy Darrel Green, 74, with sexually abusing a child under the age of 12. The alleged abuse occurred between 2014 and 2019, according to the documents.
The sheriff’s office said Green assisted deputies with administrative work during his time as a volunteer, including sorting paperwork and making calls to people who had filed reports with the agency.
Investigators indicated that an additional child sex abuse arrest connected to the sheriff’s office could be coming soon. No further details were released.
Under Alabama law, sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 is a Class B felony, which carries a sentence of two to 20 years in prison upon conviction. The charge is an accusation, and Green is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
