Mobile residents will get a free chance to clear out the garage before the holidays. The City of Mobile is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at James Seals Jr. Park, located at 540 Texas Street.
The event gives residents a way to safely dispose of items that curbside trash and garbage collection will not take.
What Will and Won’t Be Accepted
Accepted items include automotive fluids, aerosols, batteries, fluorescent tubes, paint, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, among other household chemicals.
A long list of materials is off-limits: tires, explosives, firearms, electronics, pharmaceuticals, medical waste, appliances, and equipment will not be accepted.
Who Can Participate
The collection is open to City of Mobile residents only — contractors and businesses cannot take part, and attendees will be asked to verify the zip code of their home address.
Unlike some previous city collection events, no registration is required this time; any eligible resident can drop off approved items at any point during the four-hour event. Questions can be directed to the city’s Environmental Services Department at (251) 208-7151.
