After a decade away, Auburn-born surf and space-rock legends Man…Or Astroman? brought their cosmic cavalcade to Mobile’s Alabama Music Box on Friday, October 26, 2012, sharing the bill with Austin noise-electronic maestros the Octopus Project.
Two Genres, One Stage
Man…Or Astroman? built a cult following on instrumental surf guitar threaded with science-fiction imagery and found-sound samples. The Octopus Project, from Austin, pairs electronics, keyboards and theremin-led melodies with an earnest, communal live show.
The pairing offered Mobile audiences a night of propulsive, largely wordless music, from reverb-drenched surf to blossoming synth textures. The Alabama Music Box, a longtime Mobile listening room, was the setting for the one-night stand.
