The Mobile Police Department has named Officer Tiffany Monte its Officer of the Month for March 2019.
Monte joined the department in October 2015 and patrols the Fourth Precinct. She was recognized for proactive policing that led to several drug seizures and arrests, including 16 felony and 24 misdemeanor arrests over a single month.
On March 10, Monte initiated a traffic stop at Moffett Road and Tareyton Drive on a 2002 white Cadillac Deville. According to the department, a strong odor of marijuana came from the vehicle. A search turned up a large bag of marijuana, 25 Xanax bars and a .44-caliber handgun reported stolen in a September 2018 residential burglary. Two people were arrested.
On March 22, Monte was checking Langan Park for suspicious vehicles when she noticed a driver throwing a black .40-caliber Taurus handgun out the window. The driver, who was on federal probation for prior firearms charges, was arrested and taken to Metro Jail.
The department honored Monte at the Officer of the Month Luncheon on April 10, 2019, at the Azalea City Golf Course Club, sponsored by the Midtown Optimist Club.
