A Monroeville man has been charged with murder following a deadly shooting on South Alabama Avenue, police said.
The Monroeville Police Department said officers were called to the area near Tiger Drive after a report of an unresponsive man lying in the roadway. They found a man who appeared to have a gunshot wound and transported him to Monroe County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses who saw the victim before he was taken to the hospital gave officers a description of a vehicle, according to a police news release. Around 10 p.m., officers stopped a car matching that description and took a man and a woman into custody on unrelated charges.
After further investigation, the driver, identified as Sammie Earl Lyons Jr., was charged with murder, police said. The case remains under investigation.
