A 23-year-old motorcyclist suffered severe, life-threatening injuries Tuesday afternoon when his bike collided with a car pulling out of a West Mobile apartment complex, according to Mobile Police.
Police said the man was riding westbound on Cottage Hill Road around 3:30 p.m. on March 28 when he struck another car that was turning east out of the Inverness Lakes Apartments. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Hours of Gridlock
The crash forced police to close all lanes of Cottage Hill between Hillcrest and Sollie Road “until further notice,” snarling traffic across a wide swath of West Mobile through the evening rush. The city’s ALGO traffic map showed severe congestion stretching from near Mobile Christian School to Sollie Road, with backups also building on Hillcrest and Sollie headed north and along Grelot Road.
All lanes reopened by about 6:30 p.m., police said.
The driver of the car remained on scene, and investigators continued working to determine what led to the collision. No charges had been announced as of the latest update.
