In the days after Jimmy Buffett’s death, fans known as Parrot heads have been gathering at the Buffett Bridge in Pascagoula, Mississippi, to remember the singer-songwriter who was born there.
The bridge along the Mississippi Sound is now lined with margaritas, saltshakers, a single shrimp, sandals and pieces of juicy fruit gum left by visitors. It’s just everything that represents him, one Parrot head said.
Buffett was born Dec. 25, 1946, in Pascagoula and spent his early childhood there before moving to Mobile, Alabama. In 2015, the city dedicated the bridge in his honor. Fans say he never forgot his roots and returned to Pascagoula throughout his life for visits and concerts.
He has been in my life since the ’70s and we met in the ’70s. So, we sort of grew up with him, a longtime fan said. Parrot heads say they plan to keep Buffett’s memory alive along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
