Coast Guard Rescues Woman After Sailboat Runs Aground Near Petit Bois Island
The Coast Guard rescued a woman after her sailing vessel ran aground on Petit Bois Island near Pascagoula on Monday night, officials said.
PASCAGOULA, Miss. — The Coast Guard rescued a woman Monday night after her sailing vessel ran aground on Petit Bois Island near Pascagoula.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received the distress call at about 9 p.m. A Coast Guard boat from Pascagoula responded, along with a boat and a helicopter from New Orleans. A shoreside unit from the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources also assisted.
About Petit Bois Island
Petit Bois Island is an uninhabited barrier island off the Mississippi coast, just west of Alabama’s Dauphin Island. It is part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore, which is managed by the National Park Service. Most of the island is a designated wilderness area.
