Auburn scored three runs in the fifth inning on three consecutive two-out RBI doubles and beat South Alabama 6-1 in nonconference baseball.
The loss dropped the Jaguars to 17-23.
Early Lead Slips Away
South Alabama took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when a run scored on a wild pitch, and the Jaguars held that lead through four and a half innings.
Starter Jared Gates pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the fourth. In the fifth, he walked the leadoff batter, who reached third base with two outs. The Tigers then strung together three straight run-scoring doubles to go ahead 3-1.
Tigers Add On
Auburn scored twice in the sixth on a one-out RBI single to right and a two-out RBI single to right for a 5-1 lead.
The final run came in the bottom of the seventh. A leadoff single put a runner on base, and he later scored on a wild pitch by South Alabama’s Matt Peacock.
