MOBILE, Ala. — Sean Laird hit two home runs and drove in five runs Sunday as South Alabama defeated Northwest Florida State 16-2 at Stanky Field.
Jaguars Answer Early Deficit
Northwest Florida State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, scoring both runs against South Alabama starter Miles Ethridge. The Jaguars answered with three runs in the bottom of the first and did not trail again.
Four Straight Hits Make a Cycle
South Alabama’s first four batters of the bottom of the fourth inning combined for a single, a double, a triple and a home run. Chris Davis led off with a double, Jake Overstreet singled, Dereck O’Reilly tripled and Laird followed with a home run.
Laird’s five RBIs led the Jaguars, who scored 16 runs in the win.
Fall Schedule
The game was part of South Alabama’s fall schedule ahead of the spring season. Earlier in the week, the Jaguars beat Meridian 10-3 in fall play.
South Alabama plays its home games at Stanky Field on campus and competes in the Sun Belt Conference.
