MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama baseball beat sixth-ranked Ole Miss 3-2 in 10 innings Sunday at Eddie Stanky Field, giving head coach Steve Kittrell his 1,000th win as a head coach.
Kittrell’s 1,000th win made him the 50th coach in NCAA history to reach the milestone.
Milestone Against a Top-10 Opponent
The Jaguars reached the milestone against an Ole Miss team ranked sixth in the nation, needing an extra inning to finish off the Rebels in a one-run game on their home field.
A Longtime Jaguars Coach
Kittrell has been South Alabama’s head baseball coach since 1984. The Jaguars compete in the Sun Belt Conference and play their home games at Eddie Stanky Field on the university’s Mobile campus.
The victory over Ole Miss came in the opening weeks of the 2009 season.
