MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama baseball claimed its weekend Sun Belt Conference series against Louisiana-Lafayette with a 12-11 victory in 13 innings Sunday at Stanky Field, then traveled to Hammond, La., on Wednesday to face No. 21 Southeastern Louisiana.
Walk-Off in the 13th
The series finale stretched four extra innings before the Jaguars ended it in the bottom of the 13th. Second baseman Zach Grichor led off the inning with a double through the left side of the infield. He later scored the winning run when a pitch from Louisiana-Lafayette’s Chase Traffica got past the catcher.
The victory gave South Alabama a 2-1 series win over the Ragin’ Cajuns.
Midweek Trip to Hammond
On Wednesday, the Jaguars faced 21st-ranked Southeastern Louisiana on the road. The Lions scored twice in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. South Alabama cut the deficit in half in the third inning, then scored four runs in its next turn at the plate to go ahead 5-2. Southeastern Louisiana answered with a run in the bottom half of that inning to pull within 5-3.
Up Next: Middle Tennessee
South Alabama is 15-9 overall and 5-1 in Sun Belt Conference play under head coach Steve Kittrell. The Jaguars travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., this weekend for a three-game conference series against Middle Tennessee State.
