MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama sophomore Carianne Wright was named to the women’s golf Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference squad, the league office announced Monday.
Third Straight Year With an All-Conference Jaguar
Wright’s selection gives South Alabama an all-conference honoree for the third consecutive season. Ashleigh Ryals earned the honor in 2014, and Kristen Golightly was selected in 2013.
Wright’s Season
Wright entered the Sun Belt Championship ranked 13th in the conference with a 77.21 stroke average, the second-best mark among the league’s sophomores.
She has two top-10 finishes this season and has placed in the top 20 in two other tournaments. She has twice shot a career-low 1-under-par 71, and her best 54-hole total of the year was a 7-over-par 223 at the MSU Ocala Spring Invitational.
Weather Suspends First Round
Heavy rain disrupted the opening day of the Sun Belt Women’s Golf Championship at Steelwood Country Club in Loxley. Several inches of water on the course overnight pushed the scheduled start back to 11 a.m. Monday, and more heavy rain moved through the area during the day, forcing officials to suspend the first round.
According to scoring posted on GolfStat.com, South Alabama will resume the first round at 5 over par, three shots behind leader Arkansas-Little Rock.
The Jaguars’ lineup of Ingrid Hagen, Kaeli Jones, Wright, Madison Connell and Caroline Beebe will return Tuesday to complete the opening round. A restart time had not been set.
