MOBILE, Ala. — Senior placekicker Jordan Means has become the first All-America honoree in South Alabama football history.
Means was named an honorable mention selection to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision All-America team by Beyond Sports College Network.
Record-Setting Season
The Hoover, Ala., native led the Jaguars with 62 points last season, becoming the first placekicker to lead South Alabama in scoring in the program’s three seasons.
Means made 13 of 15 field goal attempts and 23 of 26 extra-point tries. He set school records for most field goals in a season (13), consecutive field goals made (seven) and longest field goal (48 yards).
Another Program First
The honor follows another milestone from a year ago, when wide receiver Courtney Smith became the first South Alabama player to take part in the Senior Bowl, the all-star game played annually in Mobile.
South Alabama, coached by Joey Jones, began play in 2009 and plays its home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. The Jaguars are moving toward full membership in the Football Bowl Subdivision and the Sun Belt Conference.
