MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama has sold more than 6,000 football season tickets for its inaugural season, and 18,743 tickets remained available Tuesday for the Sept. 5 opener against Hargrave Military Academy at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, according to the athletic department’s ticketing website.
The 40,000-seat stadium will host seven South Alabama home games in 2009, the first season of football under head coach Joey Jones.
Attendance Goals
Travis Toth, South Alabama’s associate athletic director for marketing and promotions, told the Mobile Press-Register this month that he is confident the Jaguars can fill Ladd-Peebles Stadium for the opener, but he is not projecting sellouts for every home game.
“We’re not naive. We know we’ve got our hands full with that second game, third game and afterward to maintain that momentum,” Toth said. “We’d be comfortable with 20,000 to 25,000 from there on out.”
Game-Day Promotions
South Alabama has scheduled promotions around several home dates:
- Sept. 26 — Parents Day, vs. Army Prep
- Oct. 10 — Military Day, vs. Georgia Military
- Nov. 7 — the program’s first Homecoming, vs. Milford Academy
The program’s first preseason scrimmage was also presented as a Family Fun Day event.
Kickoff Times
The Sept. 5 opener against Hargrave kicks off at 4 p.m. The same day, Auburn hosts Louisiana Tech at 6 p.m., and Alabama faces Virginia Tech in Atlanta at 7 p.m.
South Alabama’s kickoff times were set with tailgating time for fans in mind and to avoid conflicts with morning youth sports.
