MOBILE, Ala. — WNSP 105.5 FM will serve as the radio home of South Alabama football this fall, Jaguars Sports Marketing announced Friday, giving the university a flagship station for the inaugural season of its new program.

The Jaguars are scheduled to play the first football game in school history on Saturday, Sept. 5, against Hargrave (Va.) Military Academy at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, with kickoff set for 4 p.m.

Broadcast Team

Lee Shirvanian will call play-by-play for the football broadcasts. Shirvanian has been the radio voice of South Alabama athletics for 30 years, handling men’s basketball and baseball broadcasts for the Jaguars.

Rick Cleveland will provide color analysis alongside Shirvanian. Pat Greenwood will host the pregame and postgame shows, handle halftime coverage and serve as the network’s sideline reporter.

Familiar Voices

In addition to his work with the Jaguars, Shirvanian co-hosts “Morning Sportscenter” on WNSP. He also co-hosted the Coach Joey Jones Radio Show, which concluded its run on March 25 of this year. The program could return to the air closer to the start of the season.

Cleveland is the freshman football coach and head boys tennis coach at UMS-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile. He also hosts “Prep Sports Weekly” and the “Prep Sports Report.”

Greenwood is the longest-tenured staff member at NBC 15 in Mobile, where he has worked since 1997. He became the station’s sports director in 1997 and returned to the news side in September 2007.

Season Opener Tickets

Tickets for the opener against Hargrave Military Academy and other home games are available through USAJaguars.com or by calling (251) 461-4USA.

South Alabama, under head coach Joey Jones, is launching its football program in 2009. Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile will serve as the Jaguars’ home field.
