MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama added junior college wide receiver Tyrell Vinson of Merced College in California to its 2013 football signing class on Monday.
Vinson is listed at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Junior College Production
Last season at Merced College, Vinson caught 50 passes for 887 yards and six touchdowns. He also returned kickoffs, averaging about 26 yards per return.
Vinson was also listed on the Merced basketball roster during his freshman season.
Room Left in the Class
Head coach Joey Jones and the university announced 25 signees on Feb. 6, national signing day. Some of those players signed in December or January, and their scholarships could be counted back to 2012, leaving South Alabama with five or six scholarships still available for the 2013 class.
The Jaguars are continuing to recruit junior college receivers and may add one more to the class this year.
Program Background
South Alabama competes in the Sun Belt Conference and plays its home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile. Jones has been the program’s head coach since it began play in 2009.
