South Alabama Men’s Golf Leads by One Shot Entering Final Round of Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate

South Alabama men's golf shot a 5-under 283 in the second round to take a one-shot lead over Auburn and Ole Miss at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.

MOBILE, Ala. — The South Alabama men’s golf team carries a one-shot lead into Tuesday’s final round of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate after improving by 16 strokes from its opening round.

The Jaguars shot a 5-under-par 283 in Monday’s second round at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course to reach 582 (+6) through 36 holes, one stroke ahead of No. 22 Auburn and Ole Miss, which are tied for second at 583.

Second-Round Surge

South Alabama opened the 15-team event with a 299 before turning in the low team round of the day in the second 18. Three Jaguars shot 70 or better: Daniel Jansen carded a 69, while Michael Garretson and Tyler Klava each posted 70. Matt Sheehan and Ally Purdy each shot 74 in the second round.

Jansen leads the South Alabama contingent at even-par 144 after rounds of 75 and 69 and is tied for sixth individually. Garretson (75-70) and Klava (75-70) are tied for ninth at 145. Sheehan is tied for 34th at 151 after rounds of 74 and 77, and Purdy is tied for 40th at 152 after shooting 78 and 74.

Final Round Pairings

South Alabama, Auburn and Ole Miss will play together in the final round. Play is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start, two hours later than originally planned.

Memphis sits fourth at 587, five shots off the lead, followed by Louisiana Tech at 588 and Michigan State at 590.

Individual Race

Texas State’s Tyler Saunders holds the individual lead at 6-under 138 after a second-round 66. Auburn’s Matt Gilchrest is second at 141, and Ole Miss’ Blake Morris is third at 142. Louisiana Tech’s Ben Robinson and Memphis’ Thomas Perrot are tied for fourth at 143.

Jansen shares sixth place at 144 with Michigan State’s Mitch Rutledge and Belmont’s Ashton Van Horne. Five players, including Garretson and Klava, are tied for ninth at 145.
