MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama wide receivers coach Ron Antoine has been hired to fill the same position at Fresno State, according to reports Saturday by CoachingSearch.com and FootballScoop.com.
CBS47 in Fresno, Calif., also reported the hire on its newscast.
Reunion With DeRuyter
Antoine will join the staff of new Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter, who was hired to replace longtime Bulldogs coach Pat Hill. DeRuyter and Antoine previously worked together on the coaching staff at Ohio from 2002 to 2004.
Opening on Jones’ Staff
Antoine’s departure creates a vacancy on the staff of South Alabama head coach Joey Jones. It was not immediately clear when Jones was notified of the move or whether he has spoken with any candidates about the opening.
South Alabama is in the midst of its transition to the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision and is preparing to join the Sun Belt Conference for football. The Jaguars play their home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile.
