MOBILE, Ala. — Lauren Allison scored three goals Thursday night as South Alabama soccer beat Louisiana-Lafayette 4-2 at The Cage, ending a two-match losing streak.
The Jaguars had been shut out in consecutive matches by Western Kentucky and Troy. The win improved South Alabama to 11-5-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the Sun Belt Conference.
Early Lead
South Alabama scored in the eighth minute when Allison found the net for her first goal in four matches.
Senior midfielder Clarissa Hernandez put two shots on goal before heading in a corner kick from sophomore defender Nini Rabsatt-Smith to make it 2-0.
Louisiana-Lafayette got on the board after a handball call. Freshman Yazmin Montoya converted the chance to cut the margin to 2-1.
Allison Adds Two in Second Half
In the 53rd minute, sophomore Jordan Duncan intercepted a Louisiana-Lafayette pass and fed Allison, who scored to restore the two-goal lead at 3-1.
Allison scored again in the 71st minute for a 4-1 advantage.
Montoya added her second goal in the 90th minute, just before the final whistle, to account for the final margin.
Senior Day Finale
South Alabama closes the regular season Sunday at 1 p.m. at The Cage against Louisiana-Monroe. The Jaguars’ seniors will be honored before the match as part of Senior Day. Admission is free.
South Alabama will then play in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, scheduled for Nov. 6-10 in San Marcos, Texas.
