MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama soccer players Lauren Allison and Jessica Oram were named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA All-South Region first team, and teammate Clarissa Hernandez was selected to the second team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced.
The three Jaguars were among 10 Sun Belt Conference players honored on the regional teams, and South Alabama’s two first-team selections were the only Sun Belt players on the first team.
Allison Led the League
Allison, the Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, led the conference in points, points per game, goals, goals per game, assists, assists per game and game-winning goals.
The freshman helped South Alabama win its first Sun Belt Tournament championship and earn the program’s first NCAA Tournament berth this fall.
Other Sun Belt Honorees
Western Kentucky placed four players on the regional teams. Nora Abolins, Chrissy Tchoula and Iris Dunn were named to the second team, and Chandler Clark made the third team.
Louisiana-Lafayette’s Grace Howell-Harries, the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year, was a second-team pick, and teammate Annika Schmidt was named to the third team.
Troy freshman Necee Jennings was also selected to the third team.
Young Talent
Allison, Dunn, Jennings and Schmidt are all freshmen, and each ranked among the conference’s top 10 in goals scored this season. Howell-Harries is a junior.
