MOBILE, Ala. — All South Alabama athletic teams will honor the late President Emeritus Gordon Moulton this season by wearing a uniform patch or helmet sticker, depending on the sport.
Black Patch With White Initials
The patch and sticker will be black with Moulton’s initials, VGM, in white letters.
Athletics director Joel Erdmann said he hopes to have the helmet stickers ready for Saturday’s football game at Troy. Patches for other uniforms, including volleyball and soccer, will take longer to produce.
Moulton’s Legacy
Moulton died Saturday, Sept. 28, at age 73. He served as South Alabama’s president for 15 years beginning in 1998, only the second president in the university’s history, and his association with the school spanned more than 46 years.
The South Alabama football program and the Jaguar Marching Band were launched during his presidency, and the athletic facilities built or improved under his administration included the Mitchell Center, the renovation of Stanky Field, a football fieldhouse and practice fields, and a multi-use facility serving track, softball and soccer.
A community memorial for Moulton is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell Center.
