South Alabama volleyball won two of its three matches at the Cowgirl Classic over the weekend, earning its first two victories of the season.
Friday: Loss to Wyoming
The Jaguars opened Friday with a straight-set loss to Wyoming. South Alabama hit .050 with 24 attack errors, while the Cowgirls hit .320. Wyoming improved to 5-0.
Sophomore Jessica Lewis led all players in the match with 16 kills, tying her season high.
Friday: Five-Set Win Over Montana
South Alabama earned its first win of the season in Friday’s second match, beating Montana 3-2 by set scores of 25-22, 24-26, 27-25, 25-22 and 15-8.
All-conference players Mechell Daniel and Lewis led the Jaguars. Daniel had a match-high 24 kills and 11 digs for her second double-double of the season and hit .352. Lewis added 20 kills. Setter Emily Hundt recorded a career-high 65 assists.
Saturday: Sweep of Ball State
South Alabama closed the event with a 3-0 win over Ball State (25-15, 25-18, 25-20). Lewis and Daniel had 10 kills apiece, and Mallory Moore added nine kills while hitting .519. Hundt finished with 32 assists against the Cardinals.
Lewis and Daniel were named to the all-tournament team.

The Jaguars, now 2-4, travel to Starkville, Miss., for the Maroon Classic on Sept. 11-13. South Alabama opens against host Mississippi State at 7 p.m. Thursday.
