Georgia Southern Rallies Past South Alabama Volleyball 3-1 at Jaguar Gym

South Alabama volleyball won the first set but lost 3-1 to Georgia Southern at Jaguar Gym, falling to 9-10 overall and 4-5 in the Sun Belt.

MOBILE, Ala. — South Alabama volleyball won the first set but dropped the next three in a 3-1 Sun Belt Conference loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday night at Jaguar Gym.

The Jaguars took the opening set 25-15. Georgia Southern answered by winning the second set 25-19 and then claimed the third and fourth sets by identical 25-23 scores to finish the match.

The loss left South Alabama at 9-10 overall and 4-5 in Sun Belt play heading into an off week.

Daniel, Lewis Lead Attack

Mechell Daniel led South Alabama with 14 kills and added eight digs. Jessica Lewis also reached double figures with 11 kills, and Mallory Moore and Nikki Gittens each added seven kills.

Kelly Little came off the bench to lead the Jaguars with 10 digs. Jenna Hassell served a team-high three aces, and South Alabama totaled seven aces in the match.

Eagles Control the Net

Georgia Southern finished with 23 team blocks, one solo block and 22 block assists. Three Eagles recorded at least five blocks: Leah Joseph led the way with six block assists, while Kym Coley and Jamie DeRatt each had five total blocks.

Georgia Southern setter Kat Minnerly posted a double-double with 40 assists and 11 digs.

After the off week, South Alabama returns to the court Oct. 19, when the Jaguars host Arkansas-Little Rock at Jaguar Gym in another Sun Belt match.
