Taylor Gault scored 27 points and Arkansas-Little Rock held the South Alabama women’s basketball team to 14.3 percent shooting from 3-point range, handing the Jaguars their first Sun Belt Conference loss of the season.

South Alabama fell to 4-9 overall and 2-1 in Sun Belt play.

Offense Held in Check

The Jaguars made a season-low 2 of 14 attempts from beyond the arc. Ronneka Robertson was South Alabama’s only player in double figures, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds. Meghan Dunn added nine points.

Rachel Cumbo, who had averaged 18.5 points over South Alabama’s previous two Sun Belt games and led the conference in 3-point shooting, was held to one field goal attempt and scored on two late free throws.

Gault made 9 of 17 shots from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range, and went 3 for 3 at the free throw line.

Fowler: Defense Lacked Urgency

South Alabama head coach Terry Fowler said his team’s defense “just didn’t have the urgency level that we needed to have to give ourselves a chance” against a team of Arkansas-Little Rock’s caliber.
