Arkansas State defeated the South Alabama women’s basketball team 71-58 on Wednesday night, as 26 turnovers and a short-handed roster proved too much for the Jaguars to overcome in Sun Belt Conference play.
The loss dropped South Alabama to 7-14 overall and 5-6 in the Sun Belt. Arkansas State improved to 16-8 overall and 10-2 in conference games.
Turnovers Prove Costly
The Jaguars shot efficiently from the field, making 20 of 42 attempts for 47.6 percent. But South Alabama committed 26 turnovers, limiting its number of scoring chances against one of the top teams in the conference standings.
South Alabama played the game with a limited number of available players.
Road Trip Ahead
The Jaguars next head out for a two-game road swing that opens Saturday at Western Kentucky. The game will be the last regular-season meeting between South Alabama and Western Kentucky as Sun Belt Conference members, with the Hilltoppers set to leave the league for Conference USA on July 1.
The loss to Arkansas State leaves South Alabama below .500 in league play with the stretch run of the conference schedule underway.
Men Host Red Wolves
