Man, 69, Arrested After Springhill Hospital Assault; Woman Cut in Wagner Street Apartment Fight
Mobile police arrested Leon Wilson, 69, after an employee was struck with a bag at Springhill Hospital early Sunday, and are investigating a Saturday fight on Wagner Street in which a woman was cut.
MOBILE, Ala. — A 69-year-old man was arrested in a Springhill Hospital assault early Sunday after police say he struck a hospital employee with a bag, one of two weekend assaults the Mobile Police Department is handling. In a separate case, police are investigating after a woman was cut during a fight at the Townhouse Square Apartments on Wagner Street early Saturday.
Police released details of both incidents Monday. One case has led to an arrest; the other remains an active investigation with no arrest announced.
Springhill Hospital Assault: What Police Say Happened
Officers were called to Springhill Hospital, 3719 Dauphin St., at about 1 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, in reference to an assault, according to Mobile police.
When officers arrived, they found a male victim who had a minor injury following an altercation at the hospital. Investigators determined that a man at the hospital struck an employee with a bag that contained a belt and other items, police said.
Leon Wilson, 69, was arrested and taken to Mobile County Metro Jail.
What police have not said
The department’s release did not list the specific charge or charges Wilson faces, and it did not say what led to the altercation, why Wilson was at the hospital, or what the employee’s job was. Police did not identify the employee.
Wilson is accused, not convicted. Like anyone arrested, he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. Online jail and court records typically list formal charges and any bond after booking, and those details may be added as the case moves forward.
Wagner Street Stabbing: Woman Cut During Fight at Townhouse Square Apartments
The second case happened about 23 hours earlier. At approximately 2:05 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, officers responded to the Townhouse Square Apartments at 1966 Wagner St. in reference to an assault, police said.
By the time officers arrived, the victim, a woman, had already been taken to a local hospital by personal vehicle. Police said she had non-life-threatening injuries following a physical altercation.
Investigators determined that a known female subject cut the victim during the altercation, according to police. The release did not describe the weapon beyond the cut.
No arrest has been announced, and police said the case remains an active investigation. Police have not named the woman they believe was involved or the victim.
What “known female subject” means
When police describe a person as “known,” it generally means investigators have identified that person or that the victim knows who they are, as opposed to a stranger. It does not mean a charge has been filed. Any person who is later charged in connection with the Wagner Street case would be presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

What Happens Next
In the hospital case, Wilson’s case will move through the court system. After an arrest in Alabama, a defendant typically has an initial appearance before a judge, where charges are read and bond conditions are reviewed. Misdemeanor cases are generally handled in district or municipal court, while felony cases can be sent to a grand jury, which decides whether there is enough evidence for an indictment. Police have not said which type of charge Wilson faces.
In the Wagner Street case, detectives will continue their investigation. Police have not said whether they expect to make an arrest.
