The third annual Care Carnival returns to downtown Mobile on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, bringing a free, family-friendly block party to Jackson Street between Dauphin and St. Francis, just steps from Hayley’s Bar. The event runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with no cover charge, raising money for Woody’s Song, a program of The Learning Tree that serves children with autism.
Games, Music and a Silent Auction
Guests can play a slate of free carnival games — cornhole, ring toss, street bowling, fish for duckies and more — with donations encouraged. A pie-booth lets attendees blow off steam by hurling pastries, and several local personalities, including Hayley’s owner Delane Bond and SouthSounds co-founder Emily Hayes, are scheduled to take a turn.
This year’s Carnival also features a Silent Auction with dozens of donated prizes, from original works by local visual artists such as Lucy Gafford and Sol Davis to gift cards and experiences from Mobile businesses including The Blind Mule, The Haberdasher and Visit Mobile. Prizes are drawn every hour.
Why It Matters
Woody’s Song is a year-round, tuition-based day program for elementary-age children on the autism spectrum, building language, socialization and cognitive skills. Event organizer Brittany Mistich, who works with the children and saw the need for a community fundraiser, said she is grateful for three years of support from Mobile.
Kona Ice Coastal Alabama will donate 30 percent of its on-site sales to Woody’s Song, and Hayley’s Bar will offer drink specials for adults.
