A third suspect has surrendered in a Daphne animal cruelty investigation that led to the rescue of two severely neglected dogs earlier this month, closing out the case, Daphne police said.
Nicholas Tyler Hanson, 29, turned himself in at the Daphne Corrections facility on Wednesday on an active warrant charging him with cruelty to animals. Police identified Hanson as the final defendant connected to the Aug. 9 investigation on 6th Avenue, which previously resulted in the arrest of 22-year-old Sadie Crapps. Crapps was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and felony methamphetamine possession.
Authorities said both dogs rescued in the case are improving daily under the care of Daphne Animal Services. With Hanson’s surrender, police say the investigation is now closed.
What Happens Next
Under Alabama law, animal cruelty can be charged as a misdemeanor or, in the most serious cases involving dogs or cats, as a felony. The charges are accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
