Schools across Thomasville, Clarke County and Washington County are finalizing plans for the 2026-2027 academic year, with several campuses hosting orientation, registration and Meet the Teacher events in the coming weeks before classes begin.
Thomasville City School District students head back to class on Aug. 3, Clarke County School District students return Aug. 6, and Washington County Public Schools students start Aug. 12.
Thomasville City Schools
Thomasville Elementary School will hold orientation on July 29 from 5-6 p.m. for kindergarten and first-grade students, followed by pre-K orientation on July 30 from 5-6 p.m.
Thomasville Middle School’s orientation is set for July 27, with fifth graders meeting from 5-6 p.m. and sixth graders from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Thomasville High School will hold orientation July 28, with freshmen and sophomores from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and juniors and seniors from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Clarke County Schools
Grove Hill Elementary will host a required orientation for first-class pre-K students on Aug. 3 at 2:30 p.m. in the gym; families are asked to park in the back lot. A teacher meet-and-greet for pre-K through fourth grade follows Aug. 4 from 2:30-4 p.m., and homeroom letters will be mailed the last week of July.
Wilson Hall Middle School will hold new student registration and schedule pickup July 31, with fifth and sixth grade from 9-11 a.m. and seventh and eighth grade from 1-3 p.m. Families are encouraged to complete registration, pick up schedules, pay school fees and catastrophic insurance fees for student athletes, and purchase T-shirts. New student registration requires proof of residence, a birth certificate, a current immunization record, a parent or guardian photo ID, and custody documents where applicable.
Clarke County High School will register juniors and seniors July 28 from 9-11 a.m. and noon-2 p.m., while freshmen and sophomores register July 29 during the same time blocks. Freshman and new student orientation is also July 29, at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Clarke Prep will hold freshman orientation Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria, with attendance required for both students and parents.
Gillmore Elementary School will hold a Meet the Teacher event Aug. 3. Pre-K and kindergarten families are invited from noon-1:30 p.m. in the gym, while students assigned to Mrs. Ramsey, Mrs. Stepp and Mrs. Smith will meet in their classrooms during the same window. First graders and their families will meet Aug. 3 from 2-3:30 p.m. in the gym, and second graders meet Aug. 4 from 1-2:30 p.m. in the gym. Students return to school Aug. 6, with classes starting at 7:45 a.m. and tardy bell at 7:50 a.m.; breakfast is served 7:15-7:45 a.m.
Jackson Intermediate School’s registration and Meet the Teacher event is Aug. 4 from 12:30-5 p.m. Parents will first gather in the gym to complete registration forms, learn about the PTO, pick up pre-ordered shirts, speak with the school nurse and sign up for car line, before heading to classrooms to meet teachers and drop off supplies.
Jackson Middle School will hold student registration July 29 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. in the cafeteria. Incoming sixth graders need a Tdap vaccination and an updated immunization form, and a $35 donation covers a locker along with athletics, PE and arts fees plus office and janitorial supplies.
Jackson High School registration runs across several days: seniors July 30 from 9-11 a.m., juniors July 31 from 1-3 p.m., sophomores July 31 from 9-11 a.m., and freshmen July 31 from 1-3 p.m. Freshman student and parent orientation follows in the auditorium from 1-1:30 p.m. Students may register after their assigned time slot but not earlier.
Jackson Academy’s registration took place in the spring, and its Meet the Eagles event is Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. in the gym.
Washington County Schools
Leroy High School will host Meet the Teachers Aug. 10 from noon-6 p.m., alongside a Get on Board Fair set up along the front entrance and hallways that families will pass through on their way to meet their child’s teacher.
