UAB Center Lee Dufour Commits to South Alabama After Blazers Visit Jaguars’ Bowl Practice

UAB freshman center Lee Dufour, a Saraland native, plans to transfer to South Alabama in January after UAB players visited Jaguars practice.

MOBILE, Ala. — UAB center Lee Dufour, a freshman, has announced he will transfer to South Alabama and enroll in January, after several UAB football players visited the Jaguars’ practice on Saturday as South Alabama prepared for the Raycom Media Camellia Bowl.

UAB Players Tour Jaguar Facilities

A group of UAB players toured South Alabama’s facilities and watched the Jaguars practice as they weigh where to continue their college careers. UAB announced earlier this month that it is discontinuing its football program, leaving its players free to look for new schools.

NCAA rules prohibit coaches from commenting on prospects until they are enrolled in classes, so South Alabama has not discussed any of the UAB players. At least two, however, have made their plans public.

Dufour Returning Close to Home

Dufour, a native of nearby Saraland, received a scholarship offer from South Alabama and said he intends to enroll at USA in January. Being closer to home was a major factor in his decision.

The offensive lineman appeared in UAB’s final three games this season.

Clements Announcement Unconfirmed

A Twitter account attributed to UAB quarterback Cody Clements also announced that he would transfer to South Alabama. That announcement has not been independently verified. Clements has one year of eligibility remaining.

Additional UAB players may also choose South Alabama as the transfer process continues.

Bowl Preparations Continue

The Jaguars, members of the Sun Belt Conference, are preparing for the program’s first bowl game under head coach Joey Jones. South Alabama will face Bowling Green in the inaugural Raycom Media Camellia Bowl on Saturday in Montgomery.
