Local beer and local music collide in Fairhope on Friday, August 22, when Fairhope Brewing Company unveils a one-night-only smoked porter created in honor of the Underhill Family Orchestra’s new album, “Stories of Appalachia Proper.”
The release is the second installment of the brewery’s Brewsician Collaboration Series, which pairs Gulf Coast musicians with custom brews. The first collaboration honored Fairhope singer-songwriter Grayson Capps with Lil Poison Brown Ale; this time the brewery built a limited “Stories of Appalachia” Smoked Porter around the band’s record of the same name — available for that single night only.
For the Underhill Family Orchestra, a sprawling folk ensemble with deep Eastern Shore roots, the collaboration doubles as an album celebration, giving fans a chance to hear the new material with a beer brewed specifically to match it. The event also underscores Fairhope Brewing’s growing habit of tying its taproom to the area’s music scene, using the collaboration series to spotlight local artists bottle by bottle and pint by pint.
