Vigor Wolves Set to Chase Class 4A Title as AHSAA Super 7 Field Locks In
The Vigor Wolves earned a spot in the Class 4A championship game against Oneonta as the AHSAA's Super 7 bracket was finalized following Friday's semifinal round, with the title game set for Birmingham's Protective Stadium.
The Vigor Wolves are headed to Birmingham with a state championship on the line after Friday night’s semifinal round set the full bracket for the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Super 7 championship week. Vigor punched its ticket to the Class 4A title game, where the Wolves will face Oneonta for the crown at Protective Stadium.
The matchup caps a run through the playoffs for the Prichard-based program, which now has a chance to bring a state title back to Mobile County. The Class 4A championship is scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m., one of three title games set for that day as part of the AHSAA’s marquee postseason event.
Super 7 week brings together the 14 teams that survived Alabama’s high school football playoffs across classifications 1A through 7A, all vying for state championships over a span of three days at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium. Because Class 7A has fewer teams than the other classifications, that title game matchup was already locked in a week earlier than the rest of the bracket. The remaining six championship games — covering Classes 1A through 6A — were set following Friday’s semifinal contests, giving fans across the state a clear picture of the full slate heading into the event.
The championship window runs from Wednesday through Friday. The Class 7A championship opens the week on Wednesday, followed by three title games each on Thursday and Friday as the tournament works through the remaining classifications.
About the Venue
Protective Stadium opened in downtown Birmingham in 2021 as part of the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. Since the AHSAA adopted the Super 7 format in 2009, the championships have also been played at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa and Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. Vigor High School, located in Prichard, is part of the Mobile County Public School System.
