Funeral services for retired Wilcox County Sheriff’s Deputy Madison “Skip” Nicholson will be held Sunday at Wilcox Central High School in Camden, capping a week of mourning in the rural Alabama county where he was killed in the line of duty.

Nicholson, a longtime deputy, was shot and killed on Dec. 1 while responding to a domestic violence call in the Yellow Bluff community. Another deputy who answered the call with him, Trenton Gulley, survived the shooting and continues to recover at home, according to authorities.

The service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday at Wilcox Central High School, located at 1310 T.L. Threadgill Road in Camden. Visitation will be held Friday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the National Guard Armory at 327 Whiskey Run Road in Camden.

Those planning to attend are asked to wear a mask because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the sheriff’s office said.

Camden is the county seat of Wilcox County, a rural county in Alabama’s Black Belt.
