Airport Boulevard Resurfacing Project to Last Three Months, City of Mobile Announces
City of Mobile announces a major resurfacing project on Airport Boulevard from Azalea Road to city limits, expected to take three months to complete.
The City of Mobile has announced a major resurfacing project on one of the city’s busiest roadways. Airport Boulevard will be repaved from Azalea Road and McGregor Avenue westward to the city limits, according to a city news release issued Friday.
The work is expected to take approximately three months to complete. Airport Boulevard serves as a critical commercial corridor connecting west Mobile neighborhoods with shops, restaurants and offices along one of the city’s highest-traffic routes.
Drivers should anticipate lane closures and delays in the construction zone during the project. City officials recommend planning alternate routes during peak traffic hours to minimize disruptions.
The resurfacing is part of the city’s ongoing effort to maintain and improve Mobile’s road infrastructure. Additional details on traffic management plans and project milestones are expected to be released as the work progresses.
Resurfacing projects of this kind typically involve milling, or grinding away the worn top layer of pavement, before new asphalt is laid and lane striping is restored, which is why work is usually carried out in stages with rolling lane closures.
