MOBILE, Ala. — Avelo Airlines will begin nonstop service from Mobile International Airport (BFM) to Orlando International Airport (MCO), becoming the only airline offering nonstop flights from Mobile to Florida.
The announcement came after the Mobile Airport Authority told local leaders the week before to expect news. Service is scheduled to begin May 31, with an inaugural flight lifting off that Wednesday. Regular flights will operate twice weekly, on Thursdays and Sundays, using Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft.
Low fares, convenient airport
One-way fares start at an introductory rate of $29. “Mobile — it’s time to say hello to Avelo!” said Avelo Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy in a news release. “We look forward to introducing the Northern Gulf to Avelo’s low fares, industry-leading reliability and caring service. Alabama represents the 22nd state Avelo will serve, and we’ll be taking flight from Mobile’s most convenient airport — which will make getting to Orlando easier and faster than ever.”
The route gives Mobile travelers a direct link to one of the nation’s busiest tourist destinations without a connection, a notable addition for a market where passengers have long driven to Pensacola or New Orleans for more flight options. Mobile International Airport, located just south of downtown, has positioned itself as a quick-in, quick-out alternative to larger hub airports along the Gulf Coast.
