A Citronelle man accused of triggering a high-speed wreck that killed two people near Chunchula will have the chance to post a $250,000 bond after a Mobile County judge set terms in his murder case this week.
Donald Crocker, 28, faces two counts of murder along with assault and leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries. Prosecutors told the court that Crocker was traveling at more than 100 miles per hour when the crash occurred on December 14. According to state troopers, he was behind the wheel of a Jeep on Highway 45 just south of Citronelle when he left the roadway and struck several trees. Authorities say he fled on foot after the collision.
Two Passengers Killed, One Seriously Hurt
Curtis Miller, 43, and James Toomey Jr., 21, were ejected from the vehicle and died from their injuries. Skylar Toomey, 19, was seriously hurt in the crash and remained hospitalized as of the hearing.
Prior Record Raised by Prosecutors
During the bond proceeding, prosecutors pointed to what they described as a lengthy history of traffic violations. They noted that Crocker had previously faced a DUI charge stemming from an alleged crash-and-flee incident — a case that was ultimately dismissed after a state trooper failed to appear in court.
If Crocker posts bond, the judge ordered that he surrender his driver’s license as a condition of release.
Crocker entered not guilty pleas to all charges. His case returns to court January 30 for a preliminary hearing.
