Mobile’s Callaghan’s Irish Social Club has claimed bragging rights across the region: readers of Garden and Gun magazine voted it the best bar in the South.
The honor came through a March Madness-style bracket that pitted 32 Southern watering holes against one another. Callaghan’s navigated a tough road to the title, including a head-to-head Elite Eight matchup with the Flora-Bama — the legendary Gulf Coast bar straddling the Alabama-Florida line.
Pensacola’s Old Hickory Whiskey Bar was also in the field, giving the Gulf Coast strong representation throughout the competition.
For a neighborhood pub known as much for its burgers and live music as its beer selection, the win cements Callaghan’s reputation as one of the South’s most beloved small venues — and gives Mobile another reason to raise a glass.
