Jerry Carl and Bill Hightower Head to 1st Congressional District Runoff

Jerry Carl and Bill Hightower will meet in a March 31 runoff for the 1st Congressional District after Carl led the primary by 1,226 votes.

MOBILE, Ala. — The Republican race for Alabama’s 1st Congressional District is down to Jerry Carl and Bill Hightower, who will meet in a 1st Congressional District runoff on March 31.

Primary results

Carl finished ahead of Hightower districtwide by 1,226 votes in Tuesday’s primary.

In Baldwin County, Hightower received 3,126 more votes than Carl.

Carl is a Mobile County commissioner, and Hightower is a former state senator from Mobile. The seat is open because U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne is running for the U.S. Senate.

Catalyst backing

Hightower was backed by the political group Catalyst, which had predicted 10,000 votes for its candidate.
